Ai Qing(艾青, 1910-1996), originally named JIang Chenghai, is from Jinhua City, zhejinag Province. He joined the the Lift Wing Knights of the Brush Federation of China in 1932, and was arrested by Kuomintang in June that year. He became famous with his poem titled “Big Dam River: My Nurse”. In March 1941, he cmae to Yan’an, and taught at the Department of Literature, Lu Xun college of Arts, and edited the Poetry Journal. In October 1945, he was appointed Vice Dean of the College of Arts, North China United University, and Deputy Director of the Third Division of North China University. In 1949, he was appointed Military Representative for China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Standing Member of the Preparation Committee of China Federation of Arts, member of the Council of China Association of Writers, member of the Council of China Association of Fine Arts, and Deputy Editor in Chief of People’s Literature. In 1979, he was chosen as Vice Chair of China Association of Writers. His literary works include Big Dam river, The North, Notice of Daybreak, Sunward, Torch, Acclamation Collection, Red Star of the Gem, On the Marine Foreland, Black Eel, Spring, The Returned Song, Colored Poems, Saussurea involucrate, Extrafield Poetry Collection. His literary theory works include On Poetry, Ai Qing Talks About Poetry, and Ai Qing Discusses about Creation.

Ai Siqi(艾思奇, 1910-1966), a well known Marxist Philosopher, originally named Li Shengxuan, is from Tengchong County, YUnnan Province. He was. He studies in Japan in his early years, and joined the Communist Party of China in 1935. In 1938, he took a teaching position at the Anti-Japan Military and Political University, and North Shaanxi Public School. He also took the positions of Director of Research Office of Culture and Theology of the Central Research Academy, Secretary-General of the Cutlrual Committee of the Central Committee of CPC, and Deputy Editor in Chief of the Liberation Daily. After the foundation of People’s Republic of China, Vice President of the High-Level Party School of the Central Committee of CPC, Vice Chair of China Association of Philosophy, and a department member of China Academy of Social Sciences.

An Bo(安波, 1915─1965), a playwright and musician, originally named Liu Qinglu, is from Muping County, Shandong Province. He graduated from Jinan Normal School in 1937, and came to Yan’an in October that year. He went to the North Shaanxi Public School the next month, and began to study at the Department of Music, Lu Xun College of Arts in February 1938. After graduation, he stayed a the college, and began to be engaged in composition of song, and research on national music, taking the positions of Chief of Teaching Affairs Section and research fellow. In February 1943, the School of Literature of the Lu Xun college of Arts played the new-style opera, “Brother and Sister Open Up Wasteland” melodized by An Bo and Worded by Wang Dahua, Li Bo and Lu You, which was spread to other Anti-Japan Bases and the Kuomintang-ruled areas, and became well known and produced profound effect later on. After the foundation of new China, he took the positions of Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Director of Music Division of the Northeast Lu Xun College of Arts, Director of the Northeast People’s Art Theater, Chair of the Liaoning Branch of China Association of Musicians, and Deputy Director of the Publicity Department and Director of the Culture Department of the CPC Committee of Liaoning Province. In 1964, An Bo was transferred to the positions of Dean and Party Secretary of China conservatory of music. He died of liver cancer in 1965.

Buhe (布赫,1926- ), a Mongolian Chinese, is from the Left Tumot Tribe of Inner Magnolia. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1942. He studied at the North Shaanxi Public School, Yan’an Nationality College, and the Nationality College of Yan’an University from 1 9 3 9  to 194 6. He took the position of Chief CPC Party Secretary of Inner Mongolian Art Troupe. From 1 9 5 4 to 197 4, he took the positions of Deputy Head and Party Organization Secretary of the Cultural Bureau of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, Director and Acting Secretary of the Party Committee of the Art Federation of the Autonomous Region, and Acting Standing Member of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region. In 1974, he was chosen as Secretary of Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Revolutionary Committee of Baotou City of the Autonomous Region, and Director of Publicity Department of the Party Committee of the Autonomous Region. In 1978, he was chosen as Standing Member of the CPC Party Committee of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, Deputy Director of the National Nationality Committee, First Secretary of CPC Party Committee and Mayor of the Hohhot City. From 1981 to1983, he was Deputy Secretary of CPC Arty Committee of Inner Mongolia. From 1983 to 1993, he was Deputy Secretary of the CPC Party Committee and Governor of Inner Mongolia. In 1993, he was chosen as Vice Chair of the National People’s Congress. He was member of twelfth and thirteenth Central Committee of CPC, and Vice Chair of the eighth National People’s Congress.

Cai Chang(蔡畅,1900~1990),originally named Xian Xi, is from Xiangxiang County, Hunan Province. In October 1919, she and Xiang Jingyu organized some Hunan women to work and study in France. She joined the Communist Party in 1923, and was chosen as Deputy Secretary of the Women Committee of Guangdong and Guangxi in August 1925. In October 1934, she participated in the Long March. When arriving in the Northern Shaanxi the next year, she was chosen as member of the CPC Committee of Shaanxi-Gansu, and Director of the United Front Department and Organization Department of the Central Committee of CPC. In September 1937, she founded the Women Federation of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Bordering Region. In 1948, she was chosen as member of the Executive Board, Standing Member, and Director of the Women Department of Chinese National General Labor Union at the sixth National Labor Meeting. Shortly before foundation of the new China, she was selected as member of the Committee of Central People’s Congress at china People’s Political Consultative conference. After the foundation of new China, Cai Chang devoted herself into the socialist revolution and construction actively, and took leading positions of the Party and National government. She was member of the eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh Central Committee of CPC, member of the first, second, and third National People’s Congress, Vice Chair of the fourth and fifth National People’s Congress, and Chair of the first, second, and third National Women Federation.

Cai Cheng (蔡诚, 1927- ) originally named Wu Yihong, is from Puning County, Guangdong Province. He once took the positions of Deputy Head of the Public Safety Department of Guangdong Province, CPC Party Secretary of the Shenzhen Port, and Minister of the Justice Ministry of People’s Republic of China. Cai Cheng is a descendant of the senior revolutionaries Wu Zhizhi and Cai Chuyin. During the 1930s and 1940s, he did not live with his parents for the need of revolution. In his youth, he studied at the College of Natural Science, Yan’an University. In 1949, Cai Cheng took the position of Deputy Chief of Research Section of the Public Safety Department of Northwest Military and Political Committee. In 1950, he took the position of Deputy Section Chief of the Public Safety Bureau of Canton. In1952, he was transferred to the Public Safety Bureau of Guangdong Province, and took the positions of Section Chief and Head of the Office in succession. In 1965, He was chosen as Deputy Head of Public Safety Bureau of Guangdong Province and CPC Party Secretary of the Shenzhen Port. He was appointed Minister of Justice Ministry of China in 1988.

Cai Ruohong (蔡若虹, 1910- ), originally named Cai Yong, pen name Lei Meng and Zhang Zaixue, is from Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. In 1921, Cai Ruohong graduated from Shanghai School of Arts, and joined Shanghai Left Wing Federation of Fine Art. In 1939, he began to teach at the Department of Fine Art, Lu Xun College of Arts in Yan’an, and took the position of Department Head later on. He did not leaqve Yan’an until 1945 when Japan surrendered. From 1954 on, he was Vice Chair of China Association of Fine Art for 40 years. During this period, he was mainly engaged in theoretical research and commenting of fine art. Some of his works were included in Fine Art Analects of Cai Ruohong. He also published Corpus of Cai Ruohong, The Ideal Beauty is More Beautiful than Real Life,a poetry anthology titled Empathic Madrigal,and memoirs Epoch Custom among the Pavilions in Shanghai and Barefoot Paradise.
