Yan’an University Affiliated Hospital was founded under the kind attention of the Central Committee of CPC and Chairman Mao on April 11, 1950. Though 55 years of assiduous administration and painstaking pioneering, it has become the biggest third-class hospital incorporating medicine, teaching, research, prevention, healthcare and emergency treatment.
The hospital is located in the center of the sacred revolutionary capital, Yan’an City, and on the bank of Yan River beside the Pagoda Mountain, occupying 43,7 thousand square meters of land, with 116,8 thousand square meters of floor area, 377 million Yuan RMB of fixed assets, and 880 hospital beds. There 88 offices in this hospital, of which 56 are clinic medical technical offices, and 32 are administrative and logistic offices. The hospital has 1287 staff members, of which 1,119 are medical technicians (201 have high-ranking titles). Professional technicians account for 87 % of the staff. The annual number of outpatients has reached 550 thousand, and the annual number of patients discharged from hospital after recovery has been over 20 thousand. The usage rate of sickbeds is 98%, and the annual income is over 220 million yuan RMB.
In recent years, the hospital has established the guiding principle of basing the hospital on talents, prospering the hospital with science and technology, constructing the hospital with quality, strengthening the hospital with three bests, running the hospital with diligence and thrift, governing the hospital with law, low cost, gaining advantages, and pluralism. Firmly establish scientific viewpoint of development, actively adapt to new situation, and strengthen service sense, administrative sense, quality sense, efficiency sense, management sense, and goal sense, and promote the coordinated, continuous, healthy, and leap-forward development.
Abide by human basis, and recruiting and training simultaneously. The hospital has worked out short-term goals and long-term planning for talent training, gives exceptional promotion to excellent talents who stand out, purposely pays attention to training young talents, and pushes young spark plugs to the front of medical treatment and teaching in order to foster foregoers for the disciplines of new century, and emphatically recruits and trains high-level, high-educational background, applied, and needed talents. The hospital has started and implemented the 513 Strategic Plan for Talent Training, i.e., selecting five key offices at hospital level, ten foregoers for reserve disciplines, and 30 young professional spark plugs, and has implanted the 333 Project, i.e., having three surgical offices, three medical offices, and three medical technological offices reach or exceed the professional level of large comprehensive hospitals within the province, and training a batch of graduate students with relatively high caliber to substantiate the reserve forces of the hospital.
In 1992, our hospital established military-civil joint construction relationship with the Fourth Military Medical University of PLA, carrying out political joint construction, administrative joint construction, and professional; joint construction, and has achieved plentiful and substantial results. Since 2002, the Fourth Military Medical University has been training four master graduates for our hospital each year. In 2005, we established helping-construction relationship with the General Hospital of PLA, which trains two doctorate graduates on contract for our hospital each year. In 2000, under the support of the Party and administration of Yan’an University, the hospital had a try in title-hiring institution within the hospital, and gave full play to the initiatives of the professional technicians.
While continuously enhancing the level of medical technology and service quality, the hospital actively relies on progress in science and technology, develops its own advantage and technical feature, works hard to enhance the competitive strength of the hospital, and raises the overall level of diagnosis and treatment. Since the end of 1998, the hospital has raised funds in various ways, expanded the investment in equipment, and has brought in over 700 equipments from the United States, Germany and Japan. The hospital now has more than 700 large medical equipments, including a NMR machines, a Helical CT, CT-3000, an upscale ECT, a digital subtraction machine, a labor VV5 7 and colored type-B ultrasonic, a Germany's Siemens 64-slice CT machine, a VFRSA~PIUS Chinese lion colored type-B, an American Beckman Corporation’s CX-9 and Hitachi automatic biochemical analyzer, six Germany-produced hemodialysis machines, three American Automatic anesthesia machine, a US-produced five-classification hematology analyzer, a quasimolecule laser treatment device, a CR, a DR series, an extracorporeal circulation machine, a photorejuvenation, a photon dehairing machine, an geometry and therapy unit of allergic source, a simulated locator of tumor treatment equipment, a linac, an after installation, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, a Japanese Olympus electronic stomach, a colonoscopy, a bronchoscopy, a laparoscopy, a hysteroscopy, a Choledochoscope, a fiber pharyngoscopy and various fiber endoscopes, a US-produced “flow cytometry”, and a “fluorescence analysis system of Time-resolved immunity”. The in-patient department, finance department, pharmacy, cashier, and case statistics have implemented administration of area network of computer. The cadre sickroom building has been administrated with network, pricing, charging, taking, and medicine forming a compete sequence.
Updating of the facilitating and introduction of talents has promoted the development of profession. In recent years, the hospital has carried out breathtakingly difficult operations, open heart surgery, formation of coronarography and insertion of Stent Placement, ultrasonic emulsification of cataract and implantation of artificial lens, transurethral prostate electrotomy, laparoscopic surgery, choledochoscopy surgery, perforation of venous embolism of venae coronaria ventriculi and partial spleen arterial embolism by Percutaneous liver, anterior cruciate Aneurysm embolization, various brain tumor resection, kidney transplants, quasimolecule laser surgery for the treatment of myopia, new technology of treatment for intervention of emergency coronary stent for acute myocardial infarction, new method for transcatheter closure of congenital heart disease, radioactive iodine particles with implantation surgery of 125 esophageal stent and stent implantation of vertebral artery dissection and intervention treatment of hemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease, implantation of internal bone fixation for excision of cervical disc discectomy, paraventriculostomy with Fossa decompression for treatment of cerebellar hemorrhage and obstructive hydrocephalus after evacuation of hematoma, and Transanal Hirschsprung resection of nata megacolon per anus, some of which have filled in the gap in Northern Shaanxi and even the whole province, and have reached advanced provincial level, and enhanced the technology content of our hospital. The hospital has founded the Neuro-surgery Research Institute of Yan’an City, the Orthopedics Center of Yan’an City, the Dental Prevention Center of Yan’an City, the Diagnostic Radiology Center of Yan’an city, Genic Diagnosis Center of Yan’an City, as well as the Hematonosis Laboratory, the Laboratory of Dermatology and Venereology, PCR Laboratory, the Laboratory of Pleocytology, and the Laboratory of Hemorheology. These have created conditions for enhancement of medical technology, and clinical research.
Since 1992, the hospital has been carryon gout police-civil joint construction with the Bureau of Public Safety of Yan’an City, and has established the Trauma Center of Yan’an city, which has provided good environment for the trauma surgery of the hospital. In 2004, the 863 Project Group of the Ministry of Science and Technology chose out hospital as a basis for practice and popularization, and carried out operations with remotely controlled robot, especially the first success in China with the fifth-generation robot in our hospital, which aroused strong repercussion in the society.
In recent years, the hospital has been awarded the title of “Civilized Organization” by the Provincial Committee of CPC and the Provincial Government, “Advanced Unit in Intellectual work” and “Provincial Advanced Organization of Anti-Bird Flue” by Shaanxi Provincial Government, “A Hospital with Clear and Transparent Consumption and Common People Assured” by the Health Service and the Patriotic Health Campaign Committee of Shaanxi Province, “Advanced Organization of Sanitation” by the Shaanxi Provincial Government, “Trustable Organization” by the Consumers Association of Shaanxi Province, and “Advanced Urban Grassroots Party Organization” by the CPC Committee of Yan’an City. The Obstetrical Department was awarded the title of March 8 Red Flag Collective at National Level, the Woman Worker Group for Cadre Health Care was awarded the title of “Exemplary Women Civilization Post” by the National women Federation, the Nursery Unit of Neuro-surgery was awarded the title of Advanced Collective by the Health Service of Shaanxi Province, the Anesthesiology Department and Ophthalmology Department was were awarded the title of “Youth Shock Team” by the Communist Youth Committee of Shaanxi Province.
